Zarek is a former-slave turned Dark-Hunter with an axe to grind about the way that people have treated like dirt when he was living and due to his actions in Night Embrace where he risked exposure of the Dark-Hunters to the humans, Artemis wants him killed, but Ash put his foot down, so to speak, and wants him judged instead and allows Artemis to choose the judge. She happens to pick Astrid, a justice nymph who has never before judged a man innocent. Throughout the course of the novel, Astrid slowly breaks apart Zarek's wall that he puts up against everyone and helps him realize the truth about his past, and how his memorie are just not quite what they seem. Characters that deserve special mention include Sasha, a wolf that provides some great telepathic commentary to Astrid about their houseguest, and Simi, who happens to be very handy as a video recorder. Set in Alaska, the snow and blizzards that occur provide a great backdrop for this paranormal romance.
